Larger plants differ in their ability to accumulate Silicon. Pastures have higher levels of Silicon than leafy plants.
Weeds grasses such as rice accumulate on average 4.6% - 6.9% of Silicon (Si). Dry pasture grasses such as sugarcane accumulate between 0.46% and 1.38% Silicon (Si) while dicotyledonous plants accumulate less than 0.23% Silicon (Si). Silicon plays a variety of roles in plants, from boosting growth and yield to more complex actions such as improving resistance to metal toxicity, salt stress, drought resistance, resistance to pests and disease resistance.
